Monitoring and Modelling of Sediment Flushing : A Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
With ever decreasing potential for suitable new dam sites, sustainable use of existing water reservoirs is paramount importance. In absence appropriate measures, reservoir storage continually reduced due to sedimentation. One option remove sediment deposits hydraulic flushing. During the flushing operation, bottom outlets are open and released. Whether successfully removes depends on a number factors, such as capacity, shape availability. Modelling often used assess viability management in reservoir, well design operations optimize their scheduling. One-dimensional numerical models preferred long term simulations, assessments large scenarios, optimization studies. Two- three-dimensional physical can be used, each own or combination hybrid models, understand local scouring near gates other details operation. Monitoring help improving efficiency while at same time limit downstream impacts. General monitoring its catchment understanding sedimentation problem thus facilitate preparation efficient strategies. Live concentrations possible with modern equipment though not without challenges, survey performed faster. Earth observation techniques also an attractive option, allowing monitor areas difficult access, provide historical information going back several decades. This paper reviews modelling approaches published literature, presents some previously unpublished analyses.

Hydraulics characteristics of tipping sediment flushing gate.
This paper highlights a preliminary study on the potential of a tipping flush gate to be used in an open storm drain to remove sediment. The investigation was carried out by using a plasboard model of the tipping flush gate installed in a rectangular flume. A steady flow experiment was carried out to determine the discharge coefficients and also the outflow relationship of the tipping flush gat...
متن کاملOne dimensional simulation of flushing sediment through reservoirs
Control of sedimentation in reservoirs of dams is considered to be one of the most important issues in exploitation of dams and increasing their useful life. Reservoirs act as traps for sediments and prevent transport of sediments to the river. The deposited sediments will decrease the capacity of the reservoirs so that they cannot be in use any more. Various methods are discussed in this study...

15 صفحه اولSediment Flushing at the Nakdong River Estuary Barrage
The Nakdong River Estuary Barrage (NREB) prevents salt-water intrusion but causes sedimentation problems in the Lower Nakdong River in South Korea. Its mitigation requires mechanical dredging to maintain the flood conveyance capacity during typhoons. This analysis focuses on the possibility of replacing mechanical dredging with sediment flushing through gate operations changes at NREB. The new ...
متن کاملEstimating Sediment Flushing Efficiency of a Shaft Spillway Pipe and Bed Evolution in a Reservoir
Abstract: Control of reservoir sedimentation in order to ensure their sustainable use has drawn attention among water engineers and water resource managers. Several methods have been proposed, but most of the developed methodologies are incapable of modelling bed evolutions, while at the same time, compute sediment flushing efficiency. In this study a two-dimensional bed evolution model is prop...
